Róandi (pronounced row-on-di) fittingly means "calming" in Icelandic. Similar to our ever-popular Kaffi, it has that classic everyday coffee flavor, but without the caffeine. Our current Róandi is from Colombia and comes from an importer (Samaria) that operates their own farms. We really enjoy the dark chocolate notes and the light sweetness this coffee offers. Suitable for all brewing methods.

Samaria is an Colombian importer and producer that owns and operates their own farms. Their history dates back four generations; the great grandchildren of the founders currently run the business.
More than half a million families across Colombia cultivate green coffee on small farms tucked into the country’s volcanic mountain ranges. As the world’s third-largest coffee producer, Colombia delivers remarkable volume, diversity, and consistent quality throughout the year. With 16 coffee-growing regions spread across three mountain ranges—and two harvests annually—there is always fresh, vibrant coffee coming out of Colombia.

Sugarcane decaffeination process:
The sugarcane decaffeination process uses a naturally derived compound called ethyl acetate, created from fermented sugarcane molasses, to gently remove caffeine while preserving flavor.
First, the green coffee is lightly steamed. This increases moisture inside the bean and opens its structure, allowing the caffeine to be more easily extracted.
Next, the coffee is washed in a solution of water and ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate selectively bonds to the caffeine molecules and draws them out of the bean. This step is repeated several times until almost all of the caffeine has been removed.
Then, the coffee is rinsed and steamed again to remove any remaining trace of ethyl acetate. Because ethyl acetate evaporates at a low temperature, it is easily removed during this stage.
Finally, the beans are carefully dried back to their original moisture level, stabilized, and prepared for export and roasting. The result is a decaffeinated coffee that maintains much of its natural sweetness, body, and origin character—without the caffeine.
Please note that decaffeinated coffees always look darker than conventionally processed coffees, this is normal.
